New Haven Poet Claire Zoghb

will get things rolling with excerpts from her recent (2009) book of poems, Small House Breathing,  winner of the 2008 Quercus Review Book Award. Zoghb’s work has appeared in many magazines and anthologies as well as online at www.locuspoint.org. Twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize and  winner of the 2008 Dogwood annual poetry competition, Zoghb is a recipient of two Artist Fellowships from the CT Commission on Culture & Tourism, an Urban Artists Initiative grant, and a residency at the Vermont Studio Center.

slingshot in hand

cache of unripe mock oranges

piled on a branch

listening for the motorcyclist

from some other neighborhood—

here he comes now

engine blare grows like a vine

up the sides of buildings

flowers there as terror

The Main (Ives) branch of the New Haven Free Public Library system is located at 133 Elm St., across from the New Haven Green, corner of Elm and Temple. Yale Lot #51 on Temple Street (across the street from the library) opens to the public at 4pm, and there are 2-hour parking meters on streets surrounding the library.
